Constructive packaging - what exactly is it?

In addition to the Flexboxx system and standard corrugated cardboard packaging, the NTG Packaging Solutions team also specialises in so-called constructive packaging solutions. Here, the product to be packaged takes centre stage. Our task is to optimise the packaging of the parts provided by the customer and to protect them in the best possible way during transport. NTG works directly with corrugated cardboard manufacturers and develops customised solutions using state-of-the-art CAD systems. Framework conditions such as the size of the outer packaging are defined in advance. The focus here is on optimising the loading space. Which means of transport will be used to transport the goods? Lorry or train, plane or ocean container? Key points such as corrosion protection or special packing simplifications (e.g. folding tail lifts) are discussed in detail to ensure the best possible protection and easy handling.

The development of constructive packaging consists of four phases:

Phase 1 - Problem analysis

All the necessary information about the parts to be packed is collected. The dimensions and quality of the outer packaging are determined and special customer requirements such as imprints, loading flaps or special protective films and padding are defined.

Phase 2 - Planning phase

In close cooperation with corrugated board and pallet manufacturers, we analyse and design a packaging sample of the future series packaging.

Phase 3 - Sampling

The sample is delivered by an NTG employee and tested in the presence of the customer. Modifications are documented and change requests are recorded. The result is processed in a pilot series (pre-series product with a small print run).

Phase 4 - Test phase

The pilot series is tested under real conditions, the boxes are filled and dispatched. Final customer feedback is obtained, followed by any minor corrective measures. Finally, the packaging is finalised and the solution goes into series production.

Benefits at a glance

NTG offers various advantages in the development of constructive packaging. The biggest is the independent selection of corrugated board producers. Thanks to long-standing partnerships with manufacturers, our development team has detailed knowledge of the market and can assess the strengths and weaknesses of each very well. We only select producers who fulfil the requirements of the respective product 100%. It is not uncommon for several suppliers to be necessary in order to be able to offer an optimised cardboard packaging product.

A further advantage is the possibility of demand-optimised delivery and thus guaranteed low capital commitment costs. Secured by a blanket order, individual deliveries are ordered and only these individual deliveries are invoiced. Waste of storage space at production sites is therefore a thing of the past. Constructive packaging from NTG also offers protection against over- or under-deliveries, as seasonal production fluctuations can also be cushioned by appropriate stockpiling.

Many companies expect deliveries at different locations with the same quality. Here too, the NTG Group offers a major advantage. Thanks to the in-house transport and logistics system, any location in Europe can be reached quickly. Regional stockpiling in EBREX warehouses or with professional partners of the NTG Group is also possible.

An idea becomes packaging. A problem becomes a solution!
